An East Setuaket woman was sent to the hospital shortly after midnight on Wednesday and suffered serious injuries after police say a drunk driver slammed into her car.
The accident occurred at the intersection of Holbrook Road and the North Service Road of the Long Island Expressway. Police say James O'Donnell, 47, was headed northbound on Holbrook Road in a 1995 Mercury Marquis when he struck a 2005 Lincoln, travelling westbound on the service road, driven by 26-year-old Kristen Iacono.
Iacono, of East Setauket, suffered serious injuries in the crash and was transported to Stony Brook University Medical Center via Ronkonkoma Rescue. A passenger in Iacono's car, Joseph Kemp, 30, of Holbrook, was treated for non-life-threatening injuries at the hospital.
O’Donnell, who was not injured in the crash, was arrested and charged with driving while intoxicated. O’Donnell was held overnight at the Sixth Precinct in Selden and is due to be arraigned Wednesday at First District Court in Central Islip.
Police said the investigation is continuing and authorities have yet to determine what caused the crash.
Police are asking anyone with information about the crash to contact the Sixth Squad at 631-852-8652.
