Centereach Woman Arrested in Stony Brook Crash, Drug Impairment Suspected

Accident happened Thursday evening at the corner of Stony Brook Road and Route 347.

Suffolk County police have arrested a Centereach woman who crashed her car on eastbound Route 347 in Stony Brook on Thursday, alleging she was under the influence of drugs at the time.

Mary Janus, 49, was charged with first degree operating a motor vehicle while impaired by drugs following the accident, which happened at 5:53 p.m. at the intersection of Route 347 and Stony Brook Road. One person was taken to Stony Brook University Medical Center and treated for a head injury, concussion, and chest wall injury.

A police spokesman said no further information on the nature of the incident was available. However, a witness to the accident said one car appeared to run a red light and struck a northbound car, and that the driver of the offending car attempted to flee on foot before being apprehended by police.
