What Do You Want to See Here? [Empty in Three Village]

The former Borders recently closed, leaving a big storefront to fill. What do you want to see here?

The r in Stony Brook has left a huge local retail space vacant.

New stores opening up across the street such as the flagship store and suggests that there may be significant demand for the property. The close distance to the Smith Haven Mall may be also be a contributing factor.

The size of the building suggests that a "big box" retailer would be an ideal fit. However, does Three Village need another giant retailer in the area? Would you prefer to see the property taken over by multiple stores, just as how Old Navy and Trader Joe's split the former Toys R' Us building and how Panera Bread has occupied only a part of the old Circuit City? Maybe smaller businesses would benefit by splitting up the building and getting a chance to put up shop in such a highly trafficked area?

So what would you like to see move in to this building?

Beth E. says "IKEA" via Facebook. Gotta say, I like both of these ideas so far. What else can you think of?

This is slightly off topic but I don't know where else to post it in the Patch: Germany now has public bookshelves (Google it to find out more). Would love to see a few of these in our area. Great way to get books passed around since hospitals and libraries are saturated with donations if they take them at all anymore.

I LOVE STEW'S -- but realistically, it would be a traffic nightmare! Stew's needs a bigger place with a traffic flow of it's own. Perhaps a "Buy Buy Baby"? A "Peter Andrews" (they're in Farmingdale & I think Mineola) would be fabulous! They have very different types of furniture and accessories (some good prices). How about a Ruby Tuesday's?!

From our Facebook wall, a few other suggestions: Crate and Barrell, P.F. Changs, Skating Rink (got two votes), Dave and Busters or a bowling alley.

I would love for the Christmas Tree Store to open there. It doesn't sell ony Christmas items, it's everything for your home, gadets, party supplies, small furnishings. They are owned by Bed, Bath and Beyond- so maybe there is a possibility. The nearest one is Tanger outlets in Deer Park. Come to Stony Brook- Please!!

Golden Buffet! I loved them when they were in Commack. You could select an all veggie meal with the extensive hot and cold selections as well as many different types of meats and poultry. The prices were very reasonable and the food always fresh due to the high turn over.

Justme.. Even if everyone voted no the raises were locked. By voting no programs would have beenRead More decimated more and more teachers given pink slips. The problem here is the BOE giving the union these contracts. It's time to STOP THE MADNESS!!

And the candidate for the BOE ran unopposed. We have no to blame but ourselves.

Yes TC change is difficult but it has to start somewhere. What motivation does the BOE have toRead More change when we keep passing the budgets? Budgets have to fail, programs have to be cut before there will be any union negotiations. Many have to lose their jobs before they will allow their pay to be cut. Sounds harsh but it's reality. Our children will survive cuts, be educated and successful - even with less programs.
