I work in a high school and am used to the "threats" on the bathroom wall, desks, etc. I don't even know what this is about. I did receive a call from the district about fundraising also, but still am unsure of the threat. On a side note, North Brookhaven? Not loving the name....sorry. I grew up in Kings Park and it has never been refered to as "North Smithtown".

This is all very interesting.. I work in a aschool and there was no talk about it. I read the updates here on Patch, and noted that my distirct said it was sending notes and posting on website. None of which occurred up to this point at 4:49 p.m. It amazes me that a threat like this is not more publicized. I understand that it probably is not a credible threat but one still the same. In this crazy world, I would have wanted to make an informed choice about putting my child on the bus. Would I have driven my son to school today? I don't think so, since it was not specific in target but still it would have been my choice. What is the world coming to???

I did hear of the threat, as well as read about it in the newspaper, when the information was first dispersed. We have not received anything in writing from the district, or a ConnectEd phone call, regarding the threat. However, I believe Susan Hodun stated that the information is on the MPCSD website. I, personally, believe that this type of information should have been presented to us immediately and not in a way where we need to go search for it. In this day and age, I take all threats seriously. Given so much information is filtered and kept confidential, I have to think there is good reason to believe a threat is in fact serious if it is made public. From what I understand, the threat was pretty specific in who "they" were targeting too, which prompts even further concern. This is all not to say that upon further investigation the threat may be deemed not serious or not even credible. Regarding riding the bus, given our daughter's serious food allergies, she does not even ride the school bus this year. However, if she did I would have driven her to and from school at least until the threats were dismissed. I hate to say it but we live in a crazy world.

I do not see anything on Miller Place School District's website regarding a bus threat. The threat was deemed not credible, however, I think it would have been prudent to post the info about the bus threat on the district website, along with the fact that it was deemed not credible. We all need to be vigilant and cautious, but we cannot let threats of terrorism stop us from living our lives, or the terrorists have won. My children will continue to ride the bus.
