Vincent Cullen, East Setauket Resident, Dies at 62

After Cullen was diagnosed with ALS, Cullen's Crusaders Against ALS raised over $100,000 to help find a cure last year.

Vincent Cullen, the principal of a Port Jefferson Station accounting firm and East Setauket resident, passed away on Thursday at the age of 62.

Cullen leaves behind a wife, Jill, and four children: Anne, Vincent, Elisabeth and Vanna. He was the brother of Regina Kiely, Janice Moore, Timothy, Kevin, Lee Romano, James, Michael, John, Raymond, Patrick and the late Anne.

He was diagnosed with Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis, a fatal neurological disease better known as Lou Gehrig's Disease, in February of 2012.

Upon the diagnosis, Cullen's big family, friends and co-workers – he was one of 12 children of Annamarie Cullen and the late Vincent – rallied to help defeat the cause, creating Cullen's Crusaders Against ALS, a fundraising team that participated in the Walk to Defeat ALS. The squad, eventually comprised of over 400 walkers, raised a stunning total of over $110,000, while Cullen continued to work in the office and teach business classes at Stony Brook University.

Cullen's passing comes as Chris Pendergast makes his way across Long Island during his 16th annual Ride for Life. Pendergast, a Miller Place resident who has battled ALS for nearly 20 years, will be making his way through Port Jefferson and Setauket on Friday on Saturday en route to Yankee Stadium.

Visitation hours for Cullen will take place on Saturday at Moloney's Port Jefferson Station Funeral Home on Route 112, from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m., as well as on Sunday from 2 to 4 p.m. A funeral mass will take place at St. James R.C. Church on Monday morning at 10:30, followed by internment at St. James Cemetery in Setauket.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made in memory of Vincent to Cullen's Crusaders, 1650 Route 112, Port Jefferson Station, NY, 11776.
