Hounds on the Sound Dog Walk...Help Support Save-A-Pet

Get out and walk to support the animals at Save-A-Pet on Sunday June 10th in Port Jeff.

Lynne Schoepfer of Save-A-Pet has asked me to help spread the word about some upcoming fun events that will help support the animals being cared for at their animal rescue and adoption center in Port Jefferson. Join fellow animal lovers on Sunday June 10th, 2012 from 10am to 3pm as we walk around the scenic village of Port Jefferson for the 13th Annual Hounds on the Sound 3K dog walk and adoption event fundraiser. Come meet the animals available for adoption from Save-A-Pet, and take a walk with family and friends. The day will be filled with live music, food, vendors, contests, raffles, and prizes. Registration is $30.00 per person and includes a free t-shirt and gift bag. Registrants that collect $200.00 or more in pledges will receive a coffee mug with a picture of their dog printed on it. You can download a pledge form, create a profile for your pet and collect pledges for the dog walk on line with PayPal by visiting www.saveapetanimalrescue.org. The event will be held at the Memorial Park, just west of the Port Jefferson Ferry.

My daughter and I walked last year with our dog and it was a great day where we were able to meet a lot of really nice people. This event is a terrific feel good way to involve kids and the entire family in making a difference in the lives of animals that are in need of homes. I know first hand that my kids get a special feeling when they are doing something to help animals, and it makes them feel good about themselves when they feel like they are making a difference. It also makes them aware of the fact that many animals do not have homes and helps to instill in them compassion and a desire to help.

If motorcycles are more your style, then join Save-A-Pet on Sunday July 22nd for the Ruff Riders Rally for Rescue. This event will start at Petco in Rocky Point, and end in Islandia. There will be breakfast, lunch, raffles and live music. Registration is $20.00 per biker

For more details on both events go to www.saveapetli.net

I hope to see many of my fellow animal lovers in Port Jeff for the walk.

So, essentially that first residential home is being written off as the price of doing business.Read More There goes that property value. Other than as a professional residence, who would want to live by a driveway for that traffic? As for the entrance Village Automotive, that will bring even more traffic to an already busy intersection nearby. 25A is impassable/impossible in that area for large chunks of the day now.

The rezoning is for the acres of undeveloped residential land across from Ann Maries Farm stand,Read More extending down to the wooded area on 25A. A one way entrance would be placed by Village Automotive and a one way exit would come out on N. Country Rd. adjacent to the first residential house.

Can you tell us where this property is? An address or street name?

I the BOE and Union didn't allow the majority of the budget be spent on benefits and salaries maybeRead More there would be money left for supplies. With declining enrollment and cuts to programs for our kids they only ones making out are teachers and staff with too generous salaries and benefits. Vote no on Tuesday!

Seriously? We are asked to send in enough supplies per kid each year to supply 5 kids. Where does itRead More all go? It gets lost, thrown out, or ends up back in the students home via backpack. The problem is not the lack of supplies, but a lack of personal responsibility. But if we send in enough supplies each year for ten or fifteen students, then we might be able to avoid the underlying problem.

everyone should research what all the school administrators are raking in and the multple levels ofRead More staff that exists at TVCSD. It is beyond reasonable to have salaries at that level and multiple administrators and assistants and directors and assistant directors and chairman etc. Teachers earn their fair share!

Last year we lost 20 staff...this year we are losing over 50 meanwhile the remaining staff isRead More getting a 6% raise...the UNION is eating itself and ruining our school and the BOE is not dealing with the situation..the benefits are up nearly 13% this year...what do you think will happen next year? Another 60,70,80 to be laid off? My vote is NO!!!!
