Whether marked by the tolling of a bell, the placement of a flag or wreath, or the lighting of a candle, the anniversary of the Sept. 11, 2001 terrorist attacks will be recognized all over the country on Tuesday. Locally, communities across Suffolk County's north shore and east end will come together each at their own local memorials to remember the lives lost and the bravery born that day in America. Centereach
- Time: 7:00 p.m.
- Location: Centereach Fire Department at 9 South Washington Ave.
- Description: A new monument will be unveiled by the Centereach Fire District.
Commack
- Time: 6:00 p.m.
- Location: Commack High School
- Description: A candlelight vigil and memorial dedication, with the theme "Doing the Right Thing." The school district will unveil its newly completed Sept. 11 memorial featuring a piece of steel from the World Trade Towers.
East Hampton Village
- Time: 6:00 p.m.
- Location: The memorial in the shadow of the .
- Description: The East Hampton Town Chiefs' Association will sponsor the , with speakers and a wreath ceremony.
Hampton Bays
- Time: 6:00 p.m.
- Location: on Ponquogue Ave.
- Description: A memorial ceremony will be held at the Post at 6:00 p.m., followed by a walk to the Sept. 11 memorial at the Elementary School where a wreath will be placed.
Kings Park
- Time: 9:00 a.m.
- Location: Kings Park High School
- Description: A memorial ceremony, planned by the students of Kings Park High School, will take place on the football field. A framed flag, given by Stephen Butler in rembrance of his brother Thomas, who was killed on 9/11, will be dedicated. The flag will be received by Stephen Butler's daughter.
Montauk
- Time: 8:46 a.m.
- Location: From Montauk Point to the Ground Zero Memorial
- Description: A 130-mile walk between Tuesday and Thursday to Ground Zero with stops along the way in East Hampton, Hampton Bays, Patchogue, Lindenhurst, Bellmore, and others. The walk honors Det. Lt / MEC USCG Christopher M. Pupo, and serves as a scholarship fundraiser for his three daughters and benefit for Ski's Open Heart Foundation. Click here for more information.

- Location: Corner of Sound Ave. and Thomas Kelly Memorial Drive in Riverhead
- Description: The public is invited to gather and remember lives lost.
Setauket
- Time: 7:30 p.m.
- Location: 9/11 Memorial at Setauket Fire Department Station 3 on Nicolls Road
- Description: A candlelight vigil hosted by the Setauket Fire Department, where the department will honor a Suffolk County police dog who worked in recovery efforts at Ground Zero.
Southold
- Time: 5:00-7:00 p.m.
- Location: , Peconic
- Description: Flags will be provided for those who wish to place them in the park to quietly remember lives lost. For more information, .

- Time: 7:30 p.m.
- Location: 9/11 Memorial on Jefferson Ave.
- Description: hosted by the St. James Fire District, at which numerous community groups will be represented.
Stony Brook
- Time: 12:00 p.m.
- Location: Stony Brook University's Alumni Memorial Grove near bus loop
- Description: Honoring alumni and other members of the Stony Brook family who were lost on 9/11.
