Cablevision Offers Sandy Credits

Cablevision Systems Corp. said that it was offering credits to customers unable to access their Optimum service.

Cablevision was joined by Verizon's FiOS and other cable giants in lowering bills in the wake of Hurricane Sandy, which knocked power out for millions in the New York metropolitan area.

"Many of our customers have been severely impacted by Hurricane Sandy," Kristin Dolan, Cablevision’s senior executive vice president of product management and marketing, said in a statement. "In addition, customers will not be responsible for any damage to Cablevision equipment caused by the storm, and will be able to exchange damaged equipment at no cost."

Of the 1.3 million Cablevision subscribers without power, about 450,000 were on Long Island. Another 600,000 were in New Jersey. FiOS, DirecTV and Dish Network have all implemented similar policies for their customers.

Verizon said it would replace damaged or missing equipment at no cost to the customer.

Day 5 without cable, phone or internet. Cablevision does not even answer their phones. Notice that they do not report on this in Newsday or News 12 b/c they are owned by Cablevision. They say some sort of 'nod' needs to be replaced, but this is affecting hundreds in PJ, MY Sinia and RPT. Think of the elderly without even a phone to contact for help.

If LIPA is being sued, so should Cablevision. CSC has been unresponsive and as with the LIPA class action lawsuit, it is a breach of contract.

@Gigi At a projected cost of at least $20-$30 billion or more - where do you expect to come up with the money to put the lines underground?

I just got off with Cablevision and they too advised me to suspend service until I can return to my building . They are charging $10 a month to keep the current phone number. I'm thinking this is a good time to switch to Verizon..
