Fees Waived for Pet Adoption During Holiday Season

No fees for adoption or to spay, neuter and vaccinate through Dec. 31.

If a pet tops your wish list this year you may want to consider adopting one from an animal shelter.

The Brookhaven Town Animal Shelter and Adoption Center adjusted its hours on Dec. 1 and will now be open on Sundays from 11:00 am to 4:00 pm. The change was made to encourage pet adoptions during the holiday season and to make it more convenient to adopt on weekends. The shelter will be closed on Wednesdays starting December 4.

The fee to adopt, spay, neuter and vaccinate is also waived until Dec. 31. The town has had the waiver in place since October.

Normal adoption fees range from $5.00 for a dog that has been neutered or spayed by the shelter; $10.00 for a dog that has been previously neutered or spayed; $10.00 for a cat that has been previously neutered or spayed and $0 for a cat that has been neutered or spayed by the shelter. The cost to spay or neuter a cat is $35.00 and $40.00 for a dog. The town will also continue to issue free licenses for adopted dogs.

Those interested in adopting a pet should visit the Brookhaven Animal Shelter and Adoption Center located at 300 Horseblock Road in Brookhaven. The center is currently open Monday through Friday from 9:30 am to 4:00 pm and Saturday from 10:00 am to 4:00 pm. It is closed on Sundays.
