Ward Melville Students' Protest

For the last decade or so, the New York State Education Department has been ruining education. Their policies resulting from their collaboration with big business have resulted in making school feel like a prison, core subjects inapplicable, an increase in Regents level class sizes, the gutting of electives, extracurricular activities, and special education programs, mass layoffs of beloved teachers, teaching to the test, evaluation systems that are explicitly anti-teacher, over-prescription of pharmaceuticals, and other actions that have kept students from truly learning and enjoying school. State Education Commissioner John King and State Senator John J. Flanagan of New York's second senatorial district are hosting a forum on their policies at Ward Melville High School on November 12th from 6 to 8 P.M. Of course, they are not allowing any students to speak. So in response, I am forming a protest that seeks to convey the interests of students against the corrupt policies of their so-called "leaders". From 5:45 to 8:15 P.M., there will be a student protest outside of Ward Melville High School, where students can speak their mind on how the aforementioned policies have affected their educational career. There, we will be joined by teachers, parents, administrators, and others who seek to change education for the better. I hope to see you there.
