Gallery North is pleased to present Art of the Figure: An Exhibition Curated by Philip Pearlstein.  Using the human form for inspiration, artists throughout the world have implemented various techniques in an attempt to recreate the very beings that define humanity.  Whether abstract or representational, painting or sculpture, figurative art uniquely embodies fundamental elements while still having the capacity to continuously evolve.

Philip Pearlstein is an esteemed American artist whose realistic work has been critically acclaimed for his controversial images. Pearlstein is often considered to be one of the most influential artists of the twentieth century.  Invited to take part in Gallery North’s Art of the Figure exhibition, Pearlstein selected 53 works of art in a variety of media after surveying 226 two-dimensional submissions.  During the selection process Pearlstein considered composition, technique, style and expression.
