Health & Fitness

If you work in an office all day, you probably are not getting enough sunshine to make Vitamin D

Vitamin D, the Sunshine Vitamin.

Friday. Yikes! Another snow day! Well, at least they say the weekend will be nice. I'm looking forward to watching the Coneheads zip up and down the streets at the annual Westhampton Beach St. Paddys Day Parade. It sure would be nice to catch some Vitamin D and listen to a few of Long Island's outstanding Pipe & Drum bands.

If you read all the research on vitamin D3 that Dr. Michael Holick and Dr. Hector DeLuca discovered at the University of Wisconsin Madison, you would not go another day without supplementing your diet with vitamin D3. For everyone, it should be a supplement of vitamin D3. Probably there is only one in a thousand who get enough sunshine to make the body’s own source of vitamin D3. The further away we live from the equator, the less the sun has the ability to reflect on our bodies to make vitamin D3. If we are overweight or have dark skin, we cannot hold on to vitamin D3. The older we are, the less ability our bodies have to produce vitamin D3. From the research on vitamin D3, it opens up a whole new world of possibilities for good health. It can reduce the risk of 17 different kinds of cancer by 77%. It reduces the risk of type 2 diabetes by 78%. It reduces the risk of depression by 80%. It can reduce influenza (flu) and infectious diseases by 90%. In a recent Japanese study, supplementing with vitamin D3 was almost equally effective as having a flu shot. Vitamin D3 could be your flu shot. According to research at the Vitamin D Council in Omaha Nebraska, adults should get 5,000 IUs of vitamin D3 daily. Personally, I take a berry flavored (Bluebonnet), vitamin D3 tablet once daily. I'm certain it makes me more resistant to colds and flu.

A little vitamin D, some Monolaurin, some vitamin C, and before you know it you'll be jogging on the low-tide sand dunes at West Meadow Beach.
