SBU suspends transportation but classes are still in session despite heavy snow

If anyone ventured out this morning, let me rephrase that, if anyone tried to venture out this morning you probably wouldn't have gotten very far due to the horrible snow conditions- I couldn't even see a mile in front me. I do know some brave souls who somehow were able to get to Stony Brook University, but documented, via Facebook, numerous accidents they have come across as well as the bad  driving conditions and oh yea, not to mention the uncleared walking paths at the University. It seems once again Stony Brook University has conveniently  forgotten their commuter students- which make up just about half of the schools population. While classes weren't canceled, transportation on campus was. The transportation department at Stony Brook University citied the bad weather as a reason for suspending the buses. Which begs two questions how do students get to class and if it's too dangerous for the buses, doesn't that mean its too dangerous for to walk? Many commuters who braved the snow to get to school, now have to walk in dangerous conditions to get to class- that is absolutely ridiculous. If it was too dangerous for buses to run, that means it is too dangerous for people to walk, which means that classes should be canceled for the safety of students, staff and faculty. If  they don't want to have a complete snow day, they could cancel classes until at least 12:30 and then decided about the rest of the day. I understand that the school did not want to have to cancel classes  for the day or somehow take another day away to make up for the canceled classes, but the school has to keep the students/faculty/staff safety, on campus, in mind.
