Weekend Guide: Hollywood at Staller, Magic Show at the Library

Patch picks for weekend activities.

This weekend is sure to be a magical one in Three Village. You've got magic shows at the library, and you'll find the magic of Hollywood on the Staller Center stage, not to mention some holiday fun as well.

Family

  • "The Magic of Amore" comes to Emma S. Clark Memorial Library for two shows, one at 9:45 a.m. and one at 10:45 a.m. Registration is required.
  • Head over to Three Village Church at 10 a.m. on Saturday for a free Easter Egg Hunt.
  • Also at 10 a.m. on Saturday, Ward Melville HS student government is hosting its annual Bugs Bunny Breakfast ($5).
  • An activity called "Color Block Painting" is set for Friday evening at 6:30 p.m. at the library for kids ages 7 to 10.

Sports

  • Watch the SBU men's basketball team take on Iowa in a National Invitational Tournament second-round game at 9:30 p.m. (Eastern) that will be televised on ESPNU.
  • The Stony Brook baseball team takes on Binghamton in a doubleheader at Joe Nathan Field on Saturday at noon and 3 p.m., with a third matchup on Sunday at noon.
  • The men's lacrosse team takes on Bryant at 4 p.m. at LaValle Stadium on Saturday. Softball and women's lacrosse each have away games this weekend.

Entertainment

  • The Ward Melville Players present a drama, on Friday and Saturday at 7:30 p.m. (tickets $10).
  • "Hooray for Hollywood" is the show slated for 7 p.m. Sunday at the Staller Center (tickets $42).

Fine Arts

  • Gallery North's latest show, opens Friday and features three artists who are members of the art department at Stony Brook University. There will be a reception on Friday night from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m.
  • The Long Island Museum re-opened on March 1 – head on over to see the new artwork on display, "Colors of Long Island," as well as "Country Scenes for City Patrons – Works by W.S. Mount."

Seniors

  • Jefferson's Ferry will be holding an open house event on Sunday at 2 p.m.

So, essentially that first residential home is being written off as the price of doing business.Read More There goes that property value. Other than as a professional residence, who would want to live by a driveway for that traffic? As for the entrance Village Automotive, that will bring even more traffic to an already busy intersection nearby. 25A is impassable/impossible in that area for large chunks of the day now.

The rezoning is for the acres of undeveloped residential land across from Ann Maries Farm stand,Read More extending down to the wooded area on 25A. A one way entrance would be placed by Village Automotive and a one way exit would come out on N. Country Rd. adjacent to the first residential house.

I the BOE and Union didn't allow the majority of the budget be spent on benefits and salaries maybeRead More there would be money left for supplies. With declining enrollment and cuts to programs for our kids they only ones making out are teachers and staff with too generous salaries and benefits. Vote no on Tuesday!

Seriously? We are asked to send in enough supplies per kid each year to supply 5 kids. Where does itRead More all go? It gets lost, thrown out, or ends up back in the students home via backpack. The problem is not the lack of supplies, but a lack of personal responsibility. But if we send in enough supplies each year for ten or fifteen students, then we might be able to avoid the underlying problem.

everyone should research what all the school administrators are raking in and the multple levels ofRead More staff that exists at TVCSD. It is beyond reasonable to have salaries at that level and multiple administrators and assistants and directors and assistant directors and chairman etc. Teachers earn their fair share!
