West Meadow Beach Cleared for Swimming Monday Morning
West Meadow Beach has been reopened to swimmers as of Monday morning, a county Department of Health Services representative said Monday. The beach was , an effect of stormwater runoff from last week's heavy rains. According to the department, enterococci, which is an indicator of fecal bacteria, was found in higher-than-acceptable levels on Aug. 15 and Aug. 13 than on previous days. to read more.

East Setauket Burglary Causes Helicopter Response
A burglary on Neal Path in East Setauket prompted the Suffolk County Police Department to respond with a helicopter search of the area late Sunday night. Nearby residents heard loud noises and observed what they described as a low-flying helicopter flying overhead past midnight late Sunday night into Monday. A police spokesperson said squad cars and canine units were also searching the area. No arrests were made in connection with the incident.

Explosive Chemicals Detonated at The Stony Brook School
A small amount of a "highly explosive" chemical was found at and was detonated by emergency responders Tuesday afternoon, according to a police report. The Stony Brook Fire Department, Brookhaven Town Fire Marshals and Suffolk County Police Department's Emergency Services Section responded, taking the chemical to a field at the school and detonating it. The incident, reported at 4:26 p.m., is considered non-criminal and no one was injured. The name of the chemical involved was not available.

'The Revolution' Video Gaming Center Coming to Stony Brook
Mike Auricchio, a 2002 Ward Melville graduate, is fulfilling a dream he has had for eight years: opening his own business. Auricchio is getting ready to open the doors to his video gaming center, The Revolution, in Stony Brook on Sept. 1. The Revolution will offer both video game retail and a pay-to-play game room, filling what he hopes will be a dire need in town: a cool place for young people to hang out. to read more.

Town Acts Swiftly on Civic Association's Call for Sign Fixes
The this week called upon the Town of Brookhaven to act on a rash of vandalism to street signs, and the town heard the call loud and clear. Responding to a letter sent Tuesday from past president Herb Mones on behalf of the Civic Association, Julia Wilson, an assistant to Highway Superintendent John Rouse, said Wednesday that work orders have been issued to clean up or replace a number of signs that were vandalized. She said the town's sign division, as well as the foreman assigned to the Stony Brook and Setauket areas, will inspect the area for more cleanup work. to read more.
