Voters Approve $5M Library Budget

Under-the-tax-cap budget was approved by a wide margin.

Residents of Three Village passed the under-the-tax-cap library budget yesterday by a vote of 341 to 111.

The budget, a $5,030,451 budget that calls for a tax appropriation increase of less than $100,000, represents a 1.99 tax levy increase.

Following the vote, library director Ted Gutmann said he wanted to thank the community for supporting the budget and showing that the library is an important community resource.

"We're looking forward to another successful year in 2013," he said.

Library votes in Three Village have historically seen similar results, according to Gutmann. In 2011, the budget was approved by a tally of 323 to 71, and in 2010, the budget was approved by a tally of 293 to 55.

The 2013 budget process benefited from a surplus of about $200,000 from last year's budget that was rolled over into the proposed budget for more savings.
