Virginia Quake Shakes Three Village

Local student felt tremors. Did you?

A 5.8 magnitude earthquake has struck southwest of Washington D.C. on Tuesday afternoon, sending tremors across the Eastern Seaboard. Parts of the Pentagon, White House and Capitol Building have been evacuated as a precaution and shocks were reportedly felt as far away as Boston and Ohio.

Stony Brook University spokeswoman Lauren Sheprow said tremors were felt at its Manhattan, Stony Brook and Southampton campuses. Though the college is not reporting any damages.

Stony Brook junior Farjad Fazli was at work when the tremors hit.

"I was at work at Eduware in Smithtown when it happened. Initially I thought I was getting dizzy or someone was shaking my desk. When we all got up and looked at each other we knew this was for real. Several of us went outside and called friends to see if it was more than just our building. It was. Then I went on Twitter and realized that I had experienced my first real-life earthquake! Thankfully nothing here was damaged and no one got hurt," he told Patch in an email.
