Veterans Home Celebrates 20 Years of Patient Care [AUDIO]

Bronze eagle to be installed at the pond to commemorate the milestone.

The Long Island State Veterans Home on Friday celebrated its 20th anniversary, honoring the history of the facility, its first group of residents, and those who helped make it happen.

"It is inspired care," said U.S. Rep. Tim Bishop, D-Southampton, in his keynote address. "I'm always struck ... by how personal a place this is."

Executive director Fred Sganga displayed a replica of the four-foot bronze eagle statue that will soon be installed over the pond at the entrance to the veterans home, originally the result of an Eagle Scout project, now a focal point of the facility.
