The Week Ahead: Bullying Prevention, School Board, County Exec Meeting

A look at some notable upcoming events in the Three Village community this week.

On the agenda this week: A pair of events targeted at helping curb school bullying and promoting good character traits for children. Grownups get their chance at technology education on Tuesday and the school board's budget workshop series will culminate in a budget adoption on Wednesday.

1. Join forensic therapist Bill O'Leary for a workshop titled "The Psychology of Bullying" on Tuesday at 7 p.m. at Mount Elementary. The purpose is to "help arm students and parents with knowledge and strategies to change bullying behavior, empower victims, and have more responsible observers," O'Leary writes.

2. Along the same lines, learn what it takes to be an "everyday hero" at a presentation and book signing by the character education duo "Team Dawg" at 7 p.m. on Thursday at Barnes & Noble in Lake Grove.

3. On Tuesday, adults can make an appointment with teen volunteers who will show them how to use their cellphones, iPads, cameras, and other devices in a "Technology Clinic" at Emma S. Clark Memorial Library. Call 631-941-4080 (ext. 127) to schedule an appointment.

4. Suffolk County Executive Steve Bellone is expected to make an appearance to talk about Three Village issues at the Wednesday meeting of the Three Village Chamber of Commerce, set for noon at Atria South Setauket (RSVP required; call 631-689-8388 or email threevillagechamberofcommerce@yahoo.com).

5. The Board of Education is expected to adopt a proposed school budget at a special extra session added Wednesday at 7:30 p.m. at Murphy Junior High.
