SBU's Carmona Named First Team All-American

Sophomore earns nod at designated hitter; Nick Tropeano garners Second Team honors.

William Carmona, who led the Stony Brook University baseball team with a .357 batting average this spring, was named to the Louisville Slugger All-America First Team by Collegiate Baseball Newspaper Thursday. The Hempstead native became the first Seawolves player in history to gain First Team honors.

The America East Player of the Year set the school's single-season record for hits (80) and doubles (27), the latter of which ranked third in the country. Carmona also belted six homers and drove in 40 RBI, which placed him first and second on the team respectively. On the mound, Carmona posted a 1.76 ERA and led the team with four saves.

A year ago, Carmona earned conference rookie of the year and Louisville Slugger Freshman All-America accolades.

Righthanded pitcher Nick Tropeano was named for the Second Team after setting school records in wins (12) and strikeouts (119). The two-time America East Pitcher of the Year ranked fifth in the country in strikeouts per nine innings (11.52) and his 12 wins ranked behind only Texas righthander Taylor Jungmann, who went 13-0 and earned First Team honors.

Stony Brook is coming off a record-setting season as a team as well. It won 42 games and won its first America East regular-season title before being knocked out of conference tournament by Albany.
