Ronald McDonald Family Room Coming to Stony Brook Children's

New facility will serve more than 7,000 families per year who visit Stony Brook Long Island Children's Hospital.

The Ronald McDonald House of Long Island last week announced it has partnered with Stony Brook Long Island Children's Hospital to build a family room at the hospital.

The new 826-square-foot facility will be located in the inpatient pediatric unit on the 11th floor of the hospital. It will feature a kitchen and dining area, a private bathroom, laundry facilities, computer access, storage space, complimentary beverages for family members, and more.

Additional support services will be provided by The Ronald McDonald House of Long Island. The family room will be staffed by volunteers and workers from the organization.

“This is the start of an exciting partnership between The Ronald McDonald House and Stony Brook Children’s,” Dr. Margaret M. McGovern, physician-in-chief at Stony Brook Long Island Children’s Hospital, said in a statement. “We are looking forward to having this valuable resource for families so they can be close to their children while they are hospitalized.”

A hospital spokesman said the cost to renovate the facility is $20,000, which will be paid by the hospital. The family room is expected to open later this year.
