- : Zachary Gottfried, a 31-year-old Old Field resident and owner of two surf shops on Long Island, was found in waters off Jones Beach in the middle of September after a five-day search.

- : Lots of readers signed on to check out photos of Ward-Melville seniors enjoying their high school prom, the theme of which was "One Enchanted Evening."

- : Brittany Norwood, a former member of the Stony Brook Women's soccer team, was charged with murder in March and later . She will be sentenced at the end of January.
