Photo of the Day: A Sign of Safety

A new speed sign has been deployed on Nicolls Road following complaints of drivers speeding.

This speed sign has popped up on Nicolls Road a short way north of Route 347. According to a police spokesperson, it was placed there following complaints of speeding on Nicolls Road, where the speed limit is 55 miles per hour. Police say these signs actually do have an affect on drivers' habits, especially when installed in residential neighborhoods and areas near schools. Depending on who owns the sign – both the county or the township have signs like these to deploy – there can be between 20 and 40 of them active in Suffolk County at any time.
