Patchogue Mom's Special Delivery is First Baby of 2012 at SBUMC

Juelz Clay Pendleton was born at 4:04 a.m. to the Lopez and Pendleton family of Patchogue.

Expectant mom Sheila Lopez initially had plans to attend a late night service to ring in the new year at St. Joseph the Worker Church in East Patchogue.

But life is what happens, as the saying goes, while you're making other plans.

Lopez began to go into labor around midnight on Saturday night – two weeks before her due date – and she was rushed to in an ambulance.

Juelz Clay Pendleton was born at 4:04 a.m. weighing in at seven pounds, six ounces, the first baby to be born at the hospital in 2012.

"I'm feeling good," said Lopez, 23. "I'm happy. It was an easy delivery."

Juelz joins a family of six: mother Sheila and father Julius Pendleton; a 12-year-old stepsister; and three siblings between the ages of 21 months and 4 years old.

Her son's special delivery date yielded another surprise: Lopez's brother, Bryan Shedrick, also welcomed a new son, who was born at around 8:30 p.m. at Stony Brook University Medical Center on Dec. 31.

Since her new son arrived on New Year's Day, Lopez, who moved to Patchogue from Puerto Rico in 2006, said she has made a special new year's resolution: pursue a career as a nurse.

Juelz has been quiet so far.

"He looks around a lot. He wants milk. I haven't heard him cry," she said. "He looks like his brother and he looks like my grandfather. He's got his father's nose."
