From Port Jefferson Patch: In a filing with the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission charging British-owned National Grid with “perpetrating fraudulent practices and illegally exercising market power,” the Village of Port Jefferson hopes to put the energy company under the microscope and expose a business that it says has kept prices on Long Island high and excluded competition. Among the accusations are that National Grid has coerced the Long Island Power Authority into an extension of the 1997 Power Supply Agreement (PSA) on unfavorable terms for rate payers and stalled opportunities to repower existing and inefficient power plants like the one that sits on the edge of Port Jefferson Harbor. These practices, according to the claim, block competitors from offering reasonably priced alternative energy or upgrading of inefficient plants running at minimal output. In essence, the village claims that National Grid is a monopoly with Port Jefferson playing the part of trustbuster. to read more.

From Sachem Patch: A 23-year-old Sachem North graduate was killed in a motorcycle crash in Ronkonkoma Monday evening. According to police, Anthony LaTorre was riding a 2004 Suzuki motorcycle southbound on Pond Road at the intersection of Express Drive North when his motorcycle collided with a 2003 Toyota Camry at 5:50 p.m. LaTorre, of Lake Grove, was taken to Stony Brook University Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead at 6:25 p.m., police said. to read more.

From Patchogue Patch: The historic Carnegie Library building began its to the property from its original location on Lake Street in Patchogue Village Wednesday. The building is being moved to a temporary location at the Sixth District Court property, which is also expected to become its permanent location. features the building being moved during a press conference held Wednesday afternoon in the Lake Street parking lot.

From Smithtown Patch: A Kings Park man who was sentenced to 3 years probation on Tuesday, according to a report in Newsday. According to the report, Paul Lucente, 30, pleaded guilty to endangering the welfare of a child in First District Court in Central Islip. Lucente spent 45 days in jail following his April 23 arrest and was credited with time served. to read more.
