A military helicopter made an emergency landing in a Miller Place sod farm on Wednesday, according to Suffolk Police and the FAA. Suffolk County Police received a call around 2 p.m. about a possible military helicopter landing in the DeLea Sod Farm on Route 25A in Miller Place.

From Hauppauge Patch: Police: Man Approaches 9-Year-Old Girl. Officials say a man in his 40s drove up to the child on Feb. 1 in the area of Spartan Lane and Pinedale Road.

From Kings Park Patch: Charges Upgraded on Local Who Allegedly Killed Grandmother. Charges on a man who reportedly killed his grandmother just over a month ago have been upgraded from manslaughter to murder by the Suffolk County District Attorney's Office.

From Smithtown Patch: Smithtown Highway Chief Revives Call for $5M Bond. Smithtown's Superintendent of Highways is renewing his call for $5 million in extra funding to catch up with roadway and sidewalks complaints this year. Glenn Jorgensen said while he is drafting out his 2013 road improvement program, he intends to ask Smithtown Town Board to seek a $5 million bond - half of his 2012 proposal - to tackle long-standing roadway issues and outstanding sidewalk complaints.
