The unspeakable tragedy at Sandy Hook Elementary in Newtown, Conn. this past week has tugged at the heartstrings of everyone, with many asking what is being done to prevent this from happening again somewhere else. Superintendents from Miller Place, Rocky Point and Mt. Sinai have all released statements regarding the incident which discuss security and other topics of concern, and also join the nation in mourning those lost.
From Kings Park Patch: Kings Park Man to Run Half-Marathon for Sandy Hook Community. Resident Jason Fried was devastated when he heard about the children and community members killed at Sandy Hook Elementary school last Friday, prompting him to join 'Ryan's Team,' started by a former Sandy Hook Elementary School student in the hopes of raising $50,000 to assist with funeral costs and counseling for victims' families and survivors at the school. Fried, a father of four, was born in Kings Park and moved back to his original home last year recently got back into running. His dad was a track coach in Roslyn for many decades.
