Thanks to the efforts of in Port Jefferson Station, 20 adult dogs from the Midwest who had been used to breed puppies sold in pet stores will be placed in homes here on Long Island. Save-A-Pet worked with a Utah-based Best Friends Animal Society to rescue the dogs as a part of a program called "Pup My Ride."

A Commack man was struck and killed on Long Island Rail Road tracks early Friday morning, according to a LIRR spokesman.
Long Island Rail Road officials reported Gary McCue, 42, of Commack, was hit by a westbound train approximately 600 feet east of Carl's Straight Path, near Deer Park train station at approximately 8 a.m. Friday.

Miller Place-Rocky Point
Twelve-year-old John Vento was seriously injured when he was struck by a car on Plandome Road in Sound Beach Thursday, according to Suffolk Police. Vento was thrown from the dirt bike, struck the taxi and fell to the ground. Seventh Precinct Patrol Officer Jamie Rios, with the help of a Good Samaritan, performed CPR on Vento until an ambulance arrived.
