Long Island Rail Road Adds Extra Holiday Trains

Port Jefferson line will benefit from several extra train times.

To serve New Year's Eve revelers traveling to and from Manhattan, the Long Island Rail Road has announced it will provide additional westbound trains on Dec. 31 and extra eastbound trains on Jan. 1.

Departing from Port Jefferson, there will be two additional afternoon trains to Penn Station on Dec. 31:

  • A 6:45 p.m. departure from Port Jefferson
  • An additional connection at Huntington at 7:08 p.m.

Departing from Penn Station on Jan. 1, there will be two additional late-night trains on the Port Jefferson branch:

  • A 3:12 a.m. train to Port Jefferson
  • A 2:14 a.m. train to Huntington on the Port Jefferson line

The railroad has also added additional trains to and from the Ronkonkoma train station.

In a special service message, the railroad advises passengers to purchase round trip tickets and MetroCards ahead of time to avoid long lines. Open alcoholic beverage containers are also prohibited between 12 p.m. New Year's Eve to 12 p.m. New Year's Day.
