Local Biz Owner Sets Guinness Record with Charity Yarn Spinning Event

Event raises close to $4K for breast cancer awareness and Stony Brook Children's Hospital.

Vincent D'Aguanno has been spinning yarn for years. But this past weekend, he spun continuously for 32 hours, one minute and 33 seconds to establish the first Guinness world record in yarn spinning – and all for two good causes.

His charity spin raised $3,800 for breast cancer awareness in conjunction with Sunday's , and for Stony Brook Long Island Children's Hospital as well.

D'Aguanno, who along with his wife Angela owns in the Stony Brook Village Center, began spinning at 10:15 a.m. on Friday and ended at about 6:15 p.m. on Saturday. During that time, his only sleep came during one of his permitted 20-minute breaks, and he stayed awake and alert with the help of conversations with volunteer witnesses who stayed with him for four hours at a time.

D'Aguanno said in an interview Monday that he plans on breaking his own spinning record at next year's Walk for Beauty – if, that is, no one else in the world has beaten his record by then.

"If not, I'll just beat it anyway," he said. "It'll be a personal challenge."
