July 28: Support a School Supplies Drive or a 9/11 Memorial

Local groups are looking for support for community projects.

On Thursday, perhaps stop to think about the good causes in the community, and what you can do to help. We've got a few ideas.

1. The Three Village Kiwanis Club is kicking off a to collect supplies for kids in need. Drop off new and gently used school supplies to one of three donation locations: the East Setauket office of Edward Jones advisor Eliel Pimentel; ACE Hardware; and Snap Fitness.

2. The Setauket Fire Department is selling engraved bricks to raise money for its expanded 9/11 memorial. Coming up later on Three Village Patch, we'll bring you up to date on the project and how you can help support it.

3. is a culinary event being held at the Holiday Inn Express at 6 p.m. to raise money for a scholarship in honor of , former editor of the Village Times Herald.

4. Thursday's screenings at the Stony Brook Film Festival include at 7 p.m. and at 9:30 p.m.
