UPDATED: Impending Snow Storm Leads to School Cancellations

Winter storm warning in effect for Three Village area.

The National Weather Service's winter storm warning in effect for Suffolk County, starting at 7 p.m., warns of 10 to 15 inches of snow with less than a quarter-mile visibility possible, and has led to school closures for the Three Village Central School District and Stony Brook University.

The Village of Old Field said this afternoon it still plans to hold its normal board meeting at 7 p.m. at the Setauket Neighborhood House, but the Three Village Central School District has postponed its Board of Education meeting, originally scheduled for 8 p.m., until Jan. 18.

In addition, programming changes at Ward Melville include:

  • Cancellation of all evening activities after 6 p.m.
  • Varsity boys' and girls' basketball games have been moved up to 4:15 p.m.
  • Junior varsity basketball games have been canceled.

Superintendent Neil Lederer announced the public schools' closing shortly after 8 p.m. on Tuesday.
