Hospital Gets Top Ten Placement in Newly Published Rankings

U.S. News & World Report ranks New York metropolitan area hospitals.

In a new series of rankings published by U.S. News & World Report, has been named the No. 10 best hospital in the New York metropolitan area.

The rankings evaluated 622 hospitals in or near major American cities. They differ from the publication's previous "Best Hospitals" series, established 20 years ago, in that they rate facilities based on geography and overall quality rather than nationally by specialty, making them applicable to a wider range of consumers.

Dr. Steven Strongwater, Stony Brook's CEO, issued a statement Tuesday calling the third-party evaluation gratifying.

"This validates the great effort put forth by our faculty, nurses and staff to provide a consistent level of high quality care to our patients," Strongwater said.

St. Francis Hospital in Roslyn, which came in at No. 7 on the list, was the only other Long Island hospital in the top ten. New York Presbyterian University Hospital topped the list.
