E. Setauket Man the Brains Behind 'Chronicle' PR Stunt

Gary Graf put his three decades of flying remote control devices to good use to help promote the movie "Chronicle."

Gary Graf knows how to make people fly. Or rather, he knows how to make it look like people are flying.

Graf, of East Setauket, was featured in a Discovery News article for his involvement in a Thinkmodo publicity stunt that made it appear as if humans were flying over Brooklyn, the timing of which coincided with the release of the movie "Chronicle."

Graf – who told Discovery News he has flown radio controlled airplanes and helicopters for three decades – helped develop a lightweight flying object that used carbon fiber tubing, foam, and a box-kite-like design with aerodynamics resembling that of an airplane. He dubbed it "a flying potato chip."

"We were looking for the silhouette," he said. "We needed a platform of similar size to a human."
