Here's how you can take part in commemorating the tenth anniversary of 9/11.

As the tenth anniversary of 9/11 approaches, organizations throughout the community are planning memorial ceremonies to remember the victims of 9/11 and honor the heroes of the day. Here are seven ways you can take part in the community's remembrance of 9/11.

1. Visit the exhibit at Stony Brook University's Wang Center, which features historic artifacts from 9/11. The exhibit will run every day until Sept. 30. Weekday exhibit hours are 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. and weekend exhibit hours are 2 p.m. to 8 p.m. At 8 a.m. on Sunday, Sept. 11, there will be a live telecast of the Ground Zero Memorial Service. To attend, RSVP by calling (631) 632-6320 by Sept. 8.

2. On Wednesday, Sept. 7, at 12:50 p.m., the group Stony Brook Young Americans for Freedom invites the university and the community to its display of 2,997 flags on the green at the Student Activities Center plaza at Stony Brook University. Speakers including FDNY Lt. Joe Torrillo and New York City Councilman Dan Halloran will be among the speakers at the event. In case of rain, it will be held at the Student Union auditorium from 1 p.m. to 2 p.m.
