5 Things to Do this Week

As a new work week begins, here is a look at what lies ahead in and around town:

1. UPDATE: Lucy Van Dalen has qualified for the women's 1500m semifinals in the London Olympics. Tune into the Olympics at 2:45 p.m. (Eastern Time) Wednesday on NBC or NBCOlympics.com (paid registration) to watch the semifinals.

2. The 8th Annual Origami Heaven Exhibition kicks off Monday at Stony Brook University's Wang Center. This year's theme is – with pieces drawn from the Brothers Grimm, Aesop's Fables, Harry Potter, and more.

3. Attend the Three Village Board of Education meeting on Tuesday at 7:30 p.m. at the North Country Administration Center.

4. Sign up for a defensive driving class, facilitated by the Town of Brookhaven, that starts on Aug. 9 at 5 p.m. at Town Hall. See attached PDF for details.

5. Friday is the last day to donate school supplies to Suffolk County's "Backpack Pirates" event benefiting children who are housed in housed in homeless shelters, domestic violence houses, parish outreach centers, and other locations.
