A report by QSR magazine lists the top restaurant chains in the United States with Mexican cuisine on the rise.
When it comes to the leading food concepts in the United States, hamburger outlets still lead the pack but Mexican is growing. According to the most recent QSR Top Brand study hamburger chains continue to lead in popularity, however, Mexican is making inroads.
The QSR 50 lists the top 50 brands and the leading category breakdown as follows:

In the Top Fifty there were 14 hamburger chains followed by 8 chicken, 6 Mexican and 6 pizza chains.
Note that Mexican fast food concepts ranks right up there with pizza, the traditional American staple. Based upon the increasing Hispanic population we can surmise that Mexican themed restaurants will continue to grow in popularity.Bon appétit in a ranking of top food trends lists the Cemita at number 10. The Cemita which is Spanish for Big Mac has moved as far east as the New York area. The Cemita is a sandwich originally from Puebla, Mexico and consists of a roll topped with sesame seeds which makes it look like a hamburger bun except the roll is crunchy on the outside and soft on the inside. The Cemita is usually filled with fried beef but could contain pulled pork.
