Seaweed and Wagon Wheels

Stiff wind from the West; hundreds more of the wagon wheels washing up AGAIN and I am NOT HAPPY about that. There is also a lot of my favorite seaweed on the shore. You know the kind that you can POP?

My blog, The Smithtown Bay Journal, was launched in 2009 and I am absolutely thrilled that the Three Village Patch has asked me to post it as part of their blog feature on their site. I would describe the Smithtown Bay Journal as more poetic musings than maritime information.

If you are looking for the tide table, you would be better off checking out the Coast Guard’s site, but if you want to know about dolphin sightings, horseshoe crabs mating rituals or storm damage along our beautiful Bay, then this is the place.

I can go on and on about the beauty found in a piece of driftwood or a rock, but I also keep you updated on current events, such as the recent environmental fiasco that occurred when thousands of white, polyethylene disks washed up on the shores.

The little “wagon-wheels” had been accidentally released from a sewage treatment plant in Mamaroneck in Westchester County.

As for what’s going on today… I was down at the beach this morning and I have this to report. Stiff wind from the West; hundreds more of the wagon wheels washing up again and I am not happy about that. There is also a lot of my favorite seaweed on the shore. You know the kind that you can pop? I include some photos. I am sure that the windsurfers or kite-surf-board people will be out today, too.
