Au Pairs Give Back at Thanksgiving!

On Sunday, November 24, 2013 a group of helpers spent their Sunday evening in Stony Brook to prepare baskets for people in need. They prepared baskets for Thanksgiving.  Jessica Klose, au pair with Au Pair in America said, “This basket of love and hope is for people in need.”

A friend of Jessica’s told her about the 5th annual Thanksgiving Basket Brigade and asked if she wanted to help by buying some food, like some vegetables or stuffing. Jessica and her Au Pair in America friends, Michaela Domnick and Janika Bolz, purchased items needed to have a Thanksgiving dinner.  On the Sunday morning, November 24th, they went to Stony Brook to help to prepare 40 baskets for 40 families. There were a lot of helpers. Some of them do it every year and the au pairs were happy to be a part of it this year. Jessica said “I was surprised to see how much food they got together and we got right to work. We filled the baskets with turkey, vegetables, pies, fruits, stuffing, mashed potatoes and more!”

The baskets were put together and wrapped in about 3 hours.  All 40 baskets were delivered to the families by the volunteers right away.  The au pairs were happy to help deliver the baskets. The 5th annual Thanksgiving Basket Brigade is entirely self-funded and based on the support of friends, families and everyone who wants to help.
