Zwanger Pesiri Fills Niche in Stony Brook Medical Park [347 Stories]

Located in the Stony Brook Medical Park, is nearly invisible from Route 347, lacking the same kind of signage and major roadway presence its other eight locations have. And it's located just a few miles away from a more prominent on Belle Meade Road.

Sometimes, the office staff even advises patients to use nearby as a landmark to find the right address.

But in the 13 months it has been open, those shortcomings haven't stopped Zwanger Pesiri's Stony Brook location from growing faster than any of its other locations, according to CEO Dr. Steven Mendelsohn.

"I would rather it be more prominent. ... The setback is indeed a stress," he said. Yet it has "grown faster in one year than anything else we’ve ever done."

That's due in part to the flourishing medical community surrounding it, Mendelsohn said, not only in the medical park but also in the community at large. is less than four miles away and numerous other health care facilities are situated along the Route 347 and Route 25A corridors.

"It’s become a medically intensive area," Mendelsohn said. "The quality of doctors in that area is very good. I think it’s becoming the center hub in Suffolk County for medicine, and that’s why we wanted to be there."

Zwanger Pesiri's East Setauket location occupies a space of about 5,000 square feet, while its Stony Brook location is about 8,500 square feet. Both locations offer CT scans, x-ray, ultrasound, nuclear medicine, mammography, interventional biopsies, and 3-Tesla high-powered MRI. One distinguishing factor is the Stony Brook location's 256-slice CT scanner, which delivers a lower dose of radiation than that of the East Setauket office.

Some neighboring practices in the medical park raved about the radiology group's presence in the medical park not just because of its location, but also the level of care it delivers. Cathy Schoen, office manager at Stony Brook Family Medicine PLLC, said the practice sends nearly "every other patient" there.

"It all comes down to patient care," Schoen said. "The turnaround time for results is amazing. It's not just about the location. If they weren't good at what they do, we wouldn't send our patients there."
