Stafford Associates Headquarters Gets LEED Gold Certification

East Setauket building is the first privately owned office building in the Town of Brookhaven to reach this level.

The East Setauket headquarters of Stafford Associates is the first privately-owned office building in the Town of Brookhaven to receive a LEED Gold certification, TRITEC Real Estate announced Thursday.

The building was completed in March of 2010 and last week received certification as a U.S. Green Building Council Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) gold-rated building. Its features include underground water storage tanks, low-flow water fixtures, natural light elements, energy efficient mechanical systems, local materials and recycled or re-used products.

"We felt that by being sensitive to the environment in the construction of our building in some small way would be helping to conserve and preserve our nation’s green space, not only for our children and grandchildren to enjoy, but for future generations to enjoy as well," said Stafford Associates CEO Dolores Stafford.

According to TRITEC, the construction process also included measures to sort construction debris in order to maximize what got recycled as well as what was sent to landfill. The construction also required special paints, adhesives, coatings, sealants, and carpets that reduce their impact on the air quality in the building, TRITEC said.

Stafford Associates, founded in 1981, is a network integration and data hosting company.
