Setauket Resident Opens New CrossFit Gym

The gym, now open for roughly two weeks, is owned and operated by two longtime fitness enthusiasts.

After coaching clients at LA Fitness and CrossFit Stony Brook, Setauket resident Ryan Davis decided to expand upon the CrossFit craze.

The new location of CrossFit, a fitness program that utilizes constant and varied high-intensity movements, is located at 648 Middle Country Road, units 4 and 5, in St. James.

Co-owner Davis is a certified CrossFit coach.

"I've been surrounded by athletics my whole life, I partnered with my girlfriend and we both played college sports," Davis said. "We've continued to be active, we came across CrossFit a couple years ago and enjoyed it and thought it would be great to be able to coach and have our own place."

Alongside Davis in CrossFit Smithtown is co-owner and coach Alexandra Totino. Davis and Totino have recently added another CrossFit coach, Brad Pareso, who will begin coaching by the end of March.

Davis said he was familiar with the area, having taken martial arts at American Jiu Jitsu on Lake Avenue in St. James when he was younger, making the area more attractive to him to open his gym.

Since opening roughly two weeks ago the gym has already garnered roughly 20 members.

CrossFit's popularity is rapidly growing across Long Island, with gyms open in Hauppauge, East Setauket, Yaphank, Center Moriches, West Babylon, Huntington and more.

For Davis, the definition of success for the gym and his own goals for the gym are simple.

"[We want to] deliver a high level of training and just get the gym busy and everybody having fun," Davis said. "That's really the goal of this, to do good by doing well by others."
