Brookhaven residents won't have access to Verizon FiOS service because of its contractual obligations to the 182 municipalities in New York with which it already has service agreements, the Village Times Herald reported Thursday.
A Verizon spokesman said the company realizes many residents dislike Cablevision, but that the company is not seeking new franchises. Town supervisor Mark Lesko told the Village Times Herald that he thinks it's unacceptable that Verizon won't even negotiate with the town.
"At least give us a chance to pitch Verizon and make it financially attractive to Brookhaven as opposed to not giving us a chance at all," Lesko said.

Verizon gave Brookhaven many chances. Brookhaven was trying to wring more money out of them and told them they had to build out the entirety of Brookhaven within 5 years. Now that the economy has soured a bit, Verizon is stopping buildout in order to more saturate the areas that are already wired. For over 5 years Verizon was trying to get into brookhaven to agree. With the bad economy and constituents demanding FIOS, Brookhaven is now ready to be reasonable perhaps but it is too late.
