Readers Saddened by Sudden Closure of Village Restaurant

The place many still refer to as the Brook House suddenly closed last week and readers are feeling sentimental.

If you haven't had a burger or an ice cream at the Brook House, well, some might question your Three Village cred and now that it is closed, you may not get a chance to say you were there.

There's no word yet on when or what will fill the vacant space so for now, sigh, all we have are the memories.

Here's what our readers shared about the Brook House in our comment section and our Facebook page.

Cheryl Cushing Wester: I'm sad! The evolution of 'the Village' changed the feel of Stony Brook. I will always hold dear: The Apothicary, The Bootery, The Gift Shop, Baylis Hardware, The Woodbox, Wiggs Opticians, The Round Table, The Butcher Shop, The Deli, The Camera Shop, and of course our supermarket, Bohack's. I know that Wiggs is still there but the others??? So sad. Anyone remember Dogwood Hollow? Up behind the Village? Saw the Cowsills and the King family there. Played there a lot after it closed. Guess time marches on. . . So sad.

Alison Russell oh NO! not cool, that place was around forever!

Kristin Kapp the service was awful, the food was awful, the village is boring. a major overhaul needed overall.

Robin Steinfeld It's a shame ,the co that rents the complex has very high rents ,hoping it can be reopened as a soda shop / restaurant

Jeanne Flanagan Bergeron I would love to reopen the doors as a soda shop/restaurant. The rent is probably way to high.

Michael Kurtz I have fond memories of that place with my dad.

Jenifer Evans- Chasnov Cheryl Cushing Wester, I remember all those stores you mentioned. I loved The Stony Brook Bootery!! Do you remember Pic A Stitch, a little crafty store? I saw The Cowsills at DogWood Hollow too. It is a real shame. What's there now is not what Ward Melville wanted for that center, but what it was when we were growing up

Christie Pranaitis Simonton Noooo!!!!

Gina-Marie D'Meza WOW that is rough they have been there so long!

Lisa Staudt-Young When it was the old soda shop my mom would buy us ice cream...the best vanilla ice cream I ever had

Laura Foley Totillo This news is so disappointing! It was my Mom (Denise Foley Farino) & my favorite lunch spot!

Jenifer chasnov I moved to Stony Brook when I was 8, in 1968. I remember when that space was The WoodBox. Such a shame to see so many places gone. I hope a nice old fashioned place opens there.

stephanie b This village is going to be a ghost town soon. Traffic has been slow with or without brook house.

Lee Krauer I love the Brook House. When my grandchildren always love it. They call the Village Green their special place because we eat our ice cream there after dinner. This space should always remain a neighborhood restaurant. Bring back Karen and Michelle.Share your thoughts in the comment section below.
