Pizza Hut to Join New Dunkin Donuts in Mt. Sinai

Additional vacancy in same building to be filled as well, according to employees.

After the Mt. Sinai White Castle suddenly closed down last October after 10 years in business, Dunkin Donuts quickly swooped in and after an interior remodeling and a coat of paint on the façade of the building on Route 25A, the donut and coffee shop opened its doors in January, complete with a drive-thru.

Meanwhile, a little commercial space buttressing the main building has remained vacant – with no sign of what’s to become of it. But, on Thursday, employees at the Dunkin Donuts confirmed that at least part of the space will soon become a Pizza Hut. (It was unclear if it will be a Pizza Hut Express, one of the chain’s smaller take-out restaurants rather than the full scale shop.)

The employees also said that the space consists of two separate units and one might be reserved for a future, as-yet-unnamed retail location.

The original announcement of a Dunkin Donuts replacing White Castle caused a stir among readers.

“Just what we all need another Dunkin Donuts,” commented Jennifer Napolitano.

But a commenter who only went by the name of K thought it was a good idea and didn’t think others who were concerned about traffic should be worried.

“People drive by that spot regardless of what is there; they may as well drive through for coffee,” K wrote. “I doubt that it would be a traffic magnet like a Sonic or something would be… Good luck to ANY business opening at this time in our area!”

Lew Chipp also wished the business good luck.

“The perfect business to open during a recession and you can get your ‘feel good’ by simply driving through,” Chipp said. “Don't laugh. Crispy Creame donuts were the successful rage during recessions past.”

Others said with 7-Elevens and other Dunkin Donuts so close in Port Jefferson Station and Miller Place, another one was not needed.

“Needless to say, I'm disappointed,” commented ReeNee.

Jo looked forward to the employment opportunities for local youth.

“My son needs a job so I'm sending him over there,” Jo said at the time.

With the newest confirmation that a Pizza Hut is going to go into the adjoining space, we’d like to know what you think.

Is Pizza Hut a good choice?

And if there is another vacancy in the same building, what else does the area need? What would you like to see? Tell us in the comments below.

I work at the Dunkin' Donuts and next door we're supposed to be getting a Pizza Hut and a frozen yogurt place, not entirely sure whether or not the frozen yogurt place is a chain or not.

No idea, all I know is that they should be open for summer. Both empty stores are a pretty decent size though.
