Hudson Board Room Opens its Doors to Three Village

Setauket is home to Hudson Board Room, a new skate, surf and snow shop.

For Puerto Rico native and Three Village resident Antonio Berrios, opening a skate, surf, and snow shop is a dream come true.

Hudson Board Room, named after the family's English bulldog, Hudson, opened its doors July 24 in East Setauket.

"He skates, and sleeps. He's a couch potato," Berrios said of his one-and-a-half-year-old pup.

The shop, located parallel to CVS on Route 25A at Bennetts Road, has a little of everything in the skate, surf and snow industry. The walls are lined with popular skateboard decks from world famous names like Billabong and Zoo York and clothing from brand name designers.

"It's a very cool shop," said Jill Saltarelli, who bought skate shoes for her son at Hudson. "It almost makes me want to skate."

Alon Michaeli of Stony Brook said the shop is a really good-looking place.

"They don't have it anywhere else out here," he said.

Berrios, 34, and his business partner, wife Marci, also own Wish, a woman's clothing store in Stony Brook. Berrio has two sons, Alejandro, 15, and Adrian, 13.

Surfing has been Berrios' sport since he was seven years old. After spending twelve to thirteen years in the surfing and skateboarding industry, entering competitions and gaining sponsorships including HIC, Berrios decided to open his shop because of the lack of skate shops on the north shore.

"This is my life, basically," he said. "I'd turn around to do this again."

Before opening the shop, which took over a month to organize, Berrios was a cardiovascular technician at St. Vincent's Hospital in New York City before its closure in March.

"If the opportunity came up, I'd take it and continue doing this," Berrios said of the medical field.
