Hampton Coffee Company Delivers Caffeine Fix for Stony Brook Students

New licensee location is run by the school and students, with training and supervision from Water Mill-based roastery.

Stony Brook University students have a new choice of coffee to turn to for those all-night study sessions thanks to the The Hampton Coffee Corner Café, which recently opened in the campus' new dining hall.

"We are one of four concepts in the beautiful all-glass building," Jason Belkin, an owner of Hampton Coffee Company, which has locations in Water Mill, Southampton, and Westhampton Beach. The café is located in a brand new 8,000-square-foot building that is also home to Bob's BBQ, Eastern Cuisine, International Market, and Kelly Deli.

The new cafe is run by the school and the students, featuring Hampton Coffee's full espresso bar menus, as well as beans and Hampton Coffee merchandise. "While it is a licensee location and students are the managers and employees, our own Hampton Coffee staff come several times every week to deliver fresh hand-roasted coffee from our Southampton Coffee Roastery and to conduct training and supervise," Belkin said.

"We were so impressed that Stony Brook University chose to support a small local community business over those huge multinational brands to feature in their new West Side Dining Hall and that after months of deliberations and coffee taste-tests chose Hampton Coffee Company as the Long Island coffee company to bring on board," he said.

There are two Starbucks Coffee locations on campus, located on a different side of the campus. The new West Side dining hall is on the residential side, in the former Kelly Quad building.

The Seawolves Food Show, a student webshow produced by The Faculty Student Association to help students and staff learn more about Campus Dining's new products and exciting events held throughout the school year, recently featured Hampton Coffee. To watch the video on YouTube, click here

One of the first micro-roasteries on the east coast, Hampton Coffee Company was founded in 1994. A family-run business, it supplies coffee to many restaurants from Manhattan to Montauk.

In May, the business expanded with the opening of the Hampton Coffee Experience Store, at a former Mini Cooper dealership on the highly trafficked County Road 39A corridor in Southampton.
