Beyond the Thimble Moves to East Setauket

, a sewing and quilting center, has recently relocated from Lake Grove to Main Street in East Setauket, and co-owner Connie DiMaria had nothing but positive things to say so far.

Beyond the Thimble carries craft supplies and offers craft classes. The shop has added embroidery services to the new site, something it has never done before. Sewing machine sales and repair services are also done on site.

"It's a cozier place. It's more like a quilting shop," DiMaria said.

Snap Fitness Plans East Setauket Location

Snap Fitness, a franchisor of compact 24/7 state-of-the-art fitness centers, will open a new location in January at Suffolk Plaza on Nesconset Highway in East Setauket.

Julie Watterson and Phil Filmore, owners of the local club, hope to provide residents with a place to work out without the intimidating aspect that surrounds traditional big-box health clubs.

"We offer the same great workout experience as those large, fancy clubs, but at a fraction of the price," Watterson said in a statement. "Our members will train on the same state-of-the-art equipment. They will have access to personal training with an experienced staff of fitness professionals, plus a suite of online services, such as nutrition and meal planning, and a unique personal web page."

Snap Fitness, unlike many health clubs, offers its members month-to-month policies instead of being forced to attach themselves to a long-term commitment. When there is no staff on hand, members will be able to use a personalized keycard to enter and exit the workout facility.

"I am excited about joining the Setauket business community and doing my part to contribute to our health and quality of life," Filmore said.

Based in suburban Minneapolis, Snap Fitness calls itself the fastest-growing franchisor of compact, 24/7 fitness clubs. According to a press release, Snap Fitness has close to 1,000 locations in operation, with another 1,000 planned or in development, and more than 400,000 members.

A special hotline has been put into place for information about memberships at 631-706-4602. For more information, visit snapfitness.com.
