Blighted North Belle Meade Road Buildings to be Sold

Local company will reportedly invest nearly $3 million to expand.

A Setauket-based company is set to purchase four blighted buildings, raze them and build two new ones on North Belle Meade Road, according to a report published Monday in Long Island Business News.

Islandair Manufacturing, which produces air conditioners and heat pumps and which already has headquarters at 22 Research Way, is expected to pay $1.4 million for the buildings, Long Island Business News reported.

The company is then expected to knock them down and build a 40,000-square-foot structure and a 12,000-square-foot structure at a cost of $1.5 million.

The Brookhaven Industrial Development Agency is reportedly considering a package of tax breaks for the company in exchange for a commitment to add jobs. In an interview with Long Island Business News, Brookhaven supervisor Ed Romaine called the company's move "a shot in the arm for our local economy" that will add $100,000 to the tax base.
