Stony Brook Cancer Center Seeks Votes for its "Pink Glove Dance"

Hospital is in the running for a $10,000 prize via a national competition.

Stony Brook Medicine "danced the dance" – the Pink Glove Dance, that is – and now needs help grabbing votes to help it win a national competition with the goal of raising breast cancer awareness.

Sponsored by MedLine Industries Inc., the Pink Glove Dance is a national competition that will award a first prize of $10,000 to the winner's charity of choice. Voting runs until Oct. 26 and is completed by a voting system integrated with Facebook. More than 250 entries were submitted.

"We danced the dance, and now it’s time to rock the vote," said Linda Bily, cancer patient advocacy and community outreach coordinator for the Stony Brook Cancer Center, who coordinated production of Stony Brook’s video. "We need the support not only of the campus, but from the broader community we serve, since our goal is 75,000 votes in just two weeks’ time."

How to Vote: To vote for the Stony Brook video, make sure you are logged into Facebook and click here: PinkGloveDance.com. Click "Start Voting," then scroll down to the "S" section. Click on the "S" hyperlink, then scroll down to Stony Brook Medicine, where you can view the video and vote.

As of noon on Monday, Stony Brook had 365 votes. Its video includes the Stony Brook cheerleaders, dance team, hockey team, diving team, along with dozens of doctors, staff, students, fire department volunteers, and community members – and even sky divers with the signature pink gloves.

Dr. Yusuf Hannun, director of the cancer center, said in a statement that while the dance is in good fun, it represents a serious cause in its mission to defeat breast cancer.

“This video project is symbolic of all that we can accomplish when we join together to achieve one unifying goal," he said. "It symbolizes the enormous teamwork at Stony Brook Medicine in dedicating our research efforts toward finding a cure for this disease."

everyone should research what all the school administrators are raking in and the multple levels ofRead More staff that exists at TVCSD. It is beyond reasonable to have salaries at that level and multiple administrators and assistants and directors and assistant directors and chairman etc. Teachers earn their fair share!
